If you’re a nonprofit CEO or Executive Director, I have a question for you.

How many mornings have you opened your laptop and thought, I’m not sure how much longer I can keep this up?

How many nights have you laid awake worried about staff conflict, budget gaps, and your organization’s long-term sustainability. Wondering if you’re holding your organization back?

So, if that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

What you’re experiencing isn’t just stress. It’s what I call The Silent Epidemic in our sector.

Leaders expected to move mountains for their mission while quietly sacrificing their own health & well-being.

The good news? It doesn’t have to be this way.

You can lead with confidence, protect your energy, and still make a massive impact.

Why This Podcast Exists and Who It’s For

I’m Marcia Beckner, nonprofit CEO mentor and culture strategist. I’ve been a founder, an executive director, and now I mentor and coach leaders who want to balance their lives and create “best place to work” cultures where everyone can thrive.

I created the Nonprofit CEO SPARK podcast because too many nonprofit leaders are suffering in silence.

This is for you if:

You’re not failing. The system you’re in wasn’t built to help leaders like you thrive. We’re going to change that together.

Every week, I’ll share practical, no-fluff strategies to help you:

I’ll walk you through my Culture CARES® Method, a proven, actionable team-building framework to build a culture that fuels your mission instead of draining it.

These aren’t corporate strategies awkwardly squeezed into the nonprofit world. They’re built for the realities you face.

I’ll never forget my friend Jen.

She was a top fundraiser at a mental health nonprofit. On paper, her organization looked unstoppable, raising big dollars, making big promises. But inside? Burnout was eating the place alive. Turnover was nearly 80% a year.

When Jen resigned in exhaustion, her HR manager broke down in tears and begged, “Take me with you. I can’t do this anymore.”

That moment stuck with me. How could an organization advocating for mental health be driving its own people into mental burnout?

I knew this wasn’t an isolated story. I’d seen versions of it across the sector, leaders and teams expected to move mountains without the resources, boundaries, or cultural foundation to sustain them.

And here’s why it hit so close to home: I’ve been on both sides of that equation.

I launched my nonprofit leadership journey in 2007 when I founded MyLifeLine Cancer Foundation to transform the cancer experience through connection and community.

Over the next decade, we grew it into a national nonprofit, led it through a successful merger with the Cancer Support Community, and expanded its reach to more than 300,000 cancer patients and families.

It was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, but also one of the hardest. I know what it’s like to carry the mission, the staff, and the funding goals all on your shoulders.

I know the exhaustion of trying to keep everyone happy while quietly wondering how much longer you can keep going.

That’s why I founded Culture CARES Global in 2020…to help nonprofits succeed by reducing stress and overwhelm through mentoring, coaching, and strategic advisory services.

I created the Culture CARES® Method, a practical, proven approach to building inclusive, empowered, and thriving workplace cultures.

My book, You Are Meant for Great Things, shares my journey of transforming setbacks into stepping stones, and empowering women to rise through adversity with resilience and purpose.

It chronicles the founding of my nonprofit, its national growth and merger, and the challenges and stumbling blocks that became my greatest lessons in leadership and life.

So when I say I understand the weight you’re carrying, and that it’s possible to lead with confidence while protecting your energy, it’s because I’ve lived it, learned from it, and built a proven system to help you do it too.
